About Hatian-American artist Annick Duvivier's art practice:

"I create in between dreams and reality. I invite you to see the familiar through a surreal, poetic lens where emotion leads and reality bends without warning. These intimate pieces live in the blurred space between what is and the free flow of my imagination. Inspired by nature, I reimagine landscapes with invented colors and dreamlike forms, reflecting my deep connection to the earth and my desire to bring awareness to its beauty and fragility. The ordinary becomes enchanted. These are not places you’ll find on any map. They are moments suspended between longing and light, rooted in my Caribbean sensibility and shaped by intuition. In Between Dreams and Reality is where I feel most alive. It’s a space of freedom and fluidity, where color becomes language and nature speaks in symbols. Through this work, I hope to offer viewers a moment of pause, a chance to see, feel, and imagine the world not only as it is, but as it could be."

ART MAKER: How has your environment or personal history shaped your artistic practice?

ANNICK DUVIVIER: As an artist from Haiti, my environment and life experiences deeply shape my work. I lived through the 2010 earthquake, a moment that changed everything. For two weeks, I stayed in my garden, sleeping under the stars. During that time, I slowed down and truly observed nature how it moves and how it reacts when harmed. That experience opened my eyes to nature’s power and fragility. I realized that when we don’t respect the earth, it responds. This is why I focus on bringing awareness and protection to the natural world through my art. My paintings are rooted in this personal history, reminding viewers of our deep connection to nature and the need to care for it before it’s too late.
