New Hampshire-based photographer Georgia Cassimatis discussed her practice with ART MAKER:
ART MAKER: What emotions or ideas do you hope to evoke in viewers who experience your art?
GEORGIA CASSIMATIS: It is essential to cross the line from what you are comfortable with in terms of art. You should always experiment. I recall an incident when I was developing film, and I inadvertently let in some light; the shape of bubbles was stained on the film due to this “happy accidents,” I had to accept the new photographs and work with what I had. It opened my eyes to the abstract and distorted effects that can be achieved while developing film. I then began thinking about other ways I could manipulate film to create the abstract. It opened my mind to how there can be more than one way to do something at the age of 15.
ART MAKER: How do you define success as an artist? Is it about critical acclaim, personal fulfillment, orsomething else entirely?
GEORGIA CASSIMATIS: o0o0o0o!! Good Quesiton!! I think success is that feeling inside of your mind and body when you step back from your work and say, THAT’S IT!!! The rest is just Dopamine....
