Iranian artist Sheida Khosrojerdi shares about her practice with ART MAKER:
"My work often explores themes such as delicacy, femininity, and the questioning of misguided social beliefs. I’ve always believed that every individual has their own unique language to communicate with the world. For an architect, it’s the laying of bricks and building structures; for a writer, it’s words; for a musician, melodies and rhythms. For me, it’s painting.
Painting serves as my voice — the most natural way I can express my emotions, thoughts, and inner dialogue. That’s why I don’t approach painting as something merely decorative. I seek to embed meaning in my work — a concept or message that invites the viewer to reflect, to ask why the piece was created, rather than just judge it based on aesthetic value.
In my view, every artist is a messenger of their time — much like a prophet. Simplicity in delivering meaning is also important to me. That’s why many of my works focus on a single element or figure on the canvas, to draw the viewer’s full attention to the core concept. I want that connection to be direct and unfiltered — without unnecessary embellishment or overstatement.
Although this conceptual approach to painting may not always be fully appreciated in the context of our society and country, I remain committed to my path. While my drawings often come from a place of study and exploration, my canvas-based works are always built around a strong conceptual foundation.
