About Sofía Cristina's practice:

My work explores human emotions and the complex relationship between humans and the animal world. Through an approach that blends magical realism and surrealism, my goal is to invite reflection on environmental impact and the deep connection with nature.

Both on canvas and paper, my work tackles complex contemporary concepts and realities through surreal creations accompanied by poetry and wordplay. I aim to move the audience, transporting them into the world I have created, where images condense abstract feelings that, like in life, are sometimes opposing. I combine various media such as watercolor, graphite, and acrylic, using each technique according to the intention of the piece. Graphite on paper allows me to develop raw, direct, and intimate feelings in a small format, while watercolor and acrylic on canvas enable me to communicate socially relevant ideas, always from a colorful and hopeful perspective. Acrylic series such as “Aire”, “Plastic Nature”, and “Diorama” explore the intersection between the natural, artificial, and human worlds, recreating helium figures in real-world environments. Meanwhile, series such as “Ascendants and Descendants” or “Nobody puts baby in a corner” focus on reimagining animals through a renewed perspective of light, redefining the power and presence of nature.

In a world overloaded with visual impacts, the goal of my plastic universe is to provoke a smile and invite internal reflection. Avoiding direct confrontation with the harshness or aggressiveness of an image, I aim to evoke the same tenderness and sensitivity I feel towards all animals and their environment.
